Why did you decide to do Camp America?

I decided to apply for Camp America as I had heard a lot about the program and how much fun it is when I was in high school . I went straight from school to university, and then by the time I was thinking about the American dream again COVID happened, so I could not apply . Then in 2022 I had the chance to travel to the US with a friend and her family once Australia borders opened and I had the best time over there , hence decided it would be the perfect time to finally apply for a Camp America season. Since then I have completed the 2023 and 2024 season and had the absolute best time, so am planning on returning for a third season in 2025!

What did camp teach you?

Overall camp has given me the confidence to me more myself in day to day life, and I think it’s cliche because a lot of people come away saying this but it really is true. I always say to people who ask me this question that my first year, camp taught me how capable I can be,  and my second year taught me how to be be someone who has fun with everyone whilst also been a leader.

Favourite place to travel in the US and why?

I have travelled to so many places in America , including LA, Seattle, Florida, New York, Philadelphia and Hawaii. This is going to sound really silly coming from an Australian , but my favourite place in the USA has to be Hawaii . It is so beautiful and I love long days just surfing in the ocean, walking on the beach and then a dip in the pool so the Hawaii life is my perfect day every day, however I love every city I’ve seen! As a Greys Anatomy enthusiast , Seattle was a huge fan girl moment . I love the hustle and bustle of LA and as a dancer loved getting to take classes at the famous dance studios there. I also loved the Disney worlds and beaches in Florida, and the statue of Liberty in New York is by far the coolest thing I have ever seen with my own eyes,. The friends experience in NYC where you take photo with the set of the TV is another must do, and we can’t forget that feeling when you step into times square for the first time because yes, it is exactly like the movies.

Favourite Memory from camp?

My favourite camp memory was 2024 camper arrival day. Coming back for another year, it is amazing to see your camp counsellor friends again and re connect with them, as well as meeting so many new friends, but nothing compares to seeing the kids faces when they run off the bus and see their counsellors again after 10 months. Although our co-counsellor friends know we are coming back and you’ve spent the year been excited about spending the summer with them, the kids have no idea they are about to see you again, so that day is really special.

Why would you recommend Camp America?

I would recommend Camp America because it really is the most amazing experience! It is definitely a “ You have to of been there moment .” and can not be summed up in words, but you meet such incredible people from all over the world and grow so much as a person. You really will have the time of your life and come home with memories that the photos you show your family and friends will not do justice to.
