Gap Year Programs USA: The Opportunities Available through Camp America
Whether you are looking for gap year programs in the USA, or simply for a way to spend a summer between university semesters, Camp America has program options available for you. Ever since the late 1960s, we have been facilitating cultural exchange programs for young people from Australia, England, Poland and Germany. Students who apply and are accepted into our program are placed at one of the thousand summer camps we partner with in America. They then spend nine to 12 weeks at the camp, working with kids and teenagers, forging connections with people from other parts of the world and getting a once-in-a-lifetime chance to experience the United States as something more than a tourist.
Once our camps conclude, our students have several options. Some return to Australia to resume their university studies—or, if they've graduated, to find full-time employment. Others launch full-scale gamp year programs in America, extending their travel visas to explore the different parts of the United States. Some even take their gap year travels to Canada or down into South America. The sky is the limit with a gap year started at Camp America, and we are happy to help you in any way we can. We even partner with Intrepid Travel, specifically to help gap year travellers explore the USA in the most affordable way possible.
Different Camp Types
Of course, whether you are looking at Camp America as a summer adventure or as the start of a gap year program in the USA, it all starts with our summer camps. We sponsor a range of camps all over the United States, not just providing students opportunities to live in different parts of the country, but also to do their work in different capacities.
For instance, some of our camps are general day camps for kids, providing fun activities for kids to participate in during the day while their parents are at work. Other camps focus on the development of specific skills, from sports to fine arts. And the list goes on! From faith-based camps to camps for special needs children, from girl scout camps to camps that focus on enriching the lives of underprivileged kids, the opportunities available through Camp America truly run the gamut.
If you apply to the Camp America program and are accepted, your camp placement will depend on your skills, professional experiences and interests. For instance, we wouldn't place someone with no theatrical experience at a drama camp, or a non-tennis player at a tennis camp. With that said, one of the goals of our program is personal growth, so keep yourself open-minded if you end up placed at a different type of camp than what you expected.
